position provide leadership and direction in a safe,
environmentally sound and efficient--manner in accordance with
applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Supervise, schedule,
evaluate, train,--and motivate hourly personnel. Maintain high
level of confidentiality. The incumbent is also expected
to--provide leadership in process, organizational, and personnel
improvement efforts. He/she will also--perform at a high level in
positively relating to others and positively representing to others
the views of--his/her leadership. The incumbent will be a proactive
maintenance and operations leader, identifying--process and
equipment vulnerabilities and creating plans to act upon
findings.Key Responsibilities
- Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through
compliance within state, federal and plant rules and regulations,
inspection and training.
- Serve as Incident Commander and/or Safety Officer during safety
and environmental incidents as required. Ensure environmental
compliance through proper knowledge and enforcement of procedures
and requirements.
- Report hazards, near misses, and incidents through Enablon.
Conduct preliminary investigations into incidents.-- Participate in
and support the CARE about safety program.
- Maintain good lines of communication among departments, crews,
other supervisors and management. Read and understand area notes
and translate them into a plan of the day for operations. Prepare
and review shift notes, provide follow up, troubleshooting steps
taken, and path forward as needed.-- Escalate safety, environmental
and production issues--to key stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Set example, sustain open communications, coach hourly
employees,--provide training opportunities, set goals, conduct
performance evaluations and remedy employee work issues.-- Meet
with trainees on a routine basis.
- Manage employee performance and disciplinary actions as needed.
Handle employee/crew timekeeping, including vacation entry and
approval as well as attendance policy expectations and follow up.
Uphold respectful workplace policies and enforce work rules.
- Conduct and/or ensure completion of various weekly and monthly
inspections.--Conduct monthly emergency response drills and STAR
Team check-ins.--Conduct monthly safety meetings and ensure
actions/follow up items are escalated and follow up is provided as
needed.
- Uphold programs, policies and procedures; ensure they are
utilized and reviewed routinely. Ensure direct reports have the
training and tools to complete jobs safely and efficiently.
- Be responsible for equipment uptime and account for equipment
downtime. Ensure work orders are entered in a timely manner for
equipment issues and properly coded for tracking purposes.
- Organize small outages (down days) to minimize equipment
downtime by establishing effective cross-departmental partnerships.
Call out additional resources in the off-shift to minimize
production downtime due to process upsets and/or equipment
failure.
- Monitor product grade and ensure process adjustments are made
to ensure all products (both intermediate and finished) are on
spec.-- Ensure product sampling and quality control testing is
being completed and results acted on accordingly.
- Perform frequent area audits, including operators in the walk
throughs; "see what I see". Address any safety or housekeeping
issues observed during the walk.Typical Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Relevant
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory/management experience,
preferably in manufacturing--operations
- Experience in Phosphate Operations a plus
- Strong communication skills, both internally and
externally
- Previous Union experience is a plus
- Ability to achieve results through others
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be
self-motivated and a selfstarter
- Strong knowledge of computer systems, preferred system
knowledge in SAP and/or JDEOther Information
- Understand the Collective Bargaining Agreement and apply rules
fairly and consistently.
- Ensure proper staffing levels for the plant to efficiently run
24 hours.
- Effectively encourage new and innovative ways of thinking.Job
