The Idaho Transportation Department is looking to fill key engineering positions in our Design Construction Groups. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the design and construction of highway projects, from inception to final completion.This announcement will be used to fill a current opening in the District 5, Pocatello office. Idaho Transportation Departments Engineering positions are part of the Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) Horizontal Career Path which is a 7 year horizontal career path. Through on-the-job training, classroom training, achievement of team goals and agency goals, there will be opportunity to progress through the four step program. After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below:Engineer Intern starting wage: $24.50Associate Engineer - starting wage: $28.00Staff Engineer - starting wage: $32.00 - $35.50Staff Engineer 1 - starting wage:$35.50Technical Engineer Services Leader - completion wage: $39.00Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) engineers are considered fully competent professional engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved. Candidates will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered. Some positions involve extensive travel and frequent overnight stays; being on call and responding to emergencies at any hour. The physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is required. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is a positive attribute.Example of DutiesPlan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work, as part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope.Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.Requires a broad knowledge of precedents of the engineering discipline.May supervise professional staff and/or a large number of technical staff.Minimum QualificationsCandidates must meet one of the following criteria within 6 months of employment offer:(One of the three bulleted criteria below must be completed before the start of employment)Certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer-In-Training;OR Certification as an EIT from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET);OR graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS verification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination.Valid driver's license is required for this position.Supplemental InformationWorking knowledge in Bentley MicroStation and Microsoft Project Professional desired.may not be applicable for temporary or seasonal positions.01 Do you currently have, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Idaho drivers license? To receive extra credit for this, applicant must demonstrate they have at least 9 credits in the above fields. 04 Extra Credit = TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. Please list below any credit hours of education related to geotechnical design, hydraulics/hydrology, mechanical properties of construction materials, surveying, properties of soils, highway design and construction, or structural design to receive extra credit on this exam. To receive extra credit for this, applicant must demonstrate they have at least 9 credits in the above fields. 05 Extra Credit = BRIDGE DESIGN.
