The Idaho Transportation Department is looking to fill key engineering positions in our Design and Construction Groups. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the design and construction of highway projects, from inception to final completion. This announcement will be used to fill an opening in the District 5, Pocatello office. Idaho Transportation Departments Engineering positions are part of the Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) Horizontal Career Path. Through on-the-job training, classroom training, achievement of team goals and agency goals, there will be opportunity to progress through the appropriate steps. After successfully completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below: + Engineer Intern starting wage: $24.50 + Associate Engineer - starting wage: $28.00 + Staff Engineer - starting wage: $32.00 + Technical Engineer 1 - starting wage:$35.50 + Technical Engineer 1 - completion wage:$39.00 Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) engineers are considered fully competent professional engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved. Candidates will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered. Some positions involve extensive travel and frequent overnight stays; being on call and responding to emergencies at any hour. The physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is required. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is a positive attribute. Example of Duties + Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work, as part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope. + Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. + Requires a broad knowledge of precedents of the engineering discipline. + May supervise professional staff and/or a large number of technical staff. Minimum Qualifications + Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12; + Valid driver's license. + Experience: analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices; writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards. Experience should show a basic knowledge of related laws. This could be gained in EIT courses; training courses relating specifically to understanding and applying such laws; completion of college level coursework and work experience where they actually had to apply laws. 04 Please describe your experience writing technical engineering reports. (Include what type of report, purpose, users of the report, and if the report was published.) Typically gained by possession of a professional engineering license. (Note: this should include 4 years of experience to obtain the PE OR 3 years of experience plus 1 year of education as a full-time engineering student at the Master's level.) 05 Please describe your experience evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects. Typically gained by possession of a professional engineering license. This experience must meet the standards established by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers to qualify for Professional Engineering Licensure.
