In this role, you will work closely with an integrated project team comprised of engineers (RF, cellular, networking, IT, facilities, etc.) project managers, operations & maintenance staff, configuration management staff, technicians, business professionals, and subcontractors. You will support deployment, upgrade, testing, and O&M activities for wireless and wireline telecommunication test networks. This includes developing, reviewing, and comprehension of system level requirements and/or specific customer requirements of legacy, specialized, and state-of-the-art commercial and military (tactical) wireline and wireless telecommunications and lay 2 (switched) and 3(routed) networks. Other responsibilities may include: Identify and summarize specific requirements for review and concurrence by the integrated project team, project lead, or customer, as appropriate Research, propose, design, deploy and test solutions to satisfy specific requirements Based on specific requirements, estimate associated labor, material, and subcontract costs, develop project schedules, and execute assigned work scope within identified and approved guidelines Generate conceptual, preliminary, and final designs of assigned work scope and presents/reviews design(s) with the integrated project team, project lead, and Customers, as appropriate, to evaluate design(s) and determine the most reasonable path ahead After design completion, lead/oversee initiation, configuration, deployment, integration, lab/acceptance testing efforts of assigned area specific work scope Perform/oversee general maintenance activities of assigned systems and ancillary support/analysis equipment such as operational performance checks, alarm checks, log reviews, configuration backups, physical configuration inspections (equipment and cabling), spares inventory management, failure replacements, issue troubleshooting, and corrective actions Qualifications Requirements:Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "Q" Security ClearanceBachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience or Master's Degree and 3 years. Preferred degree disciplines include: Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, and Computer Information SystemsMust have experience in telecommunications infrastructure and systems upgrades or research projects. This includes designing ATM networks, hands-on-experience configuring Marconi ATM switches, configuring,-- provisioning, troubleshooting, and interconnecting various transport/multiplexing technologies, which include point-point microwave and optical transport switching/multiplexing equipment (e.g. hi-capacity digital multiplexors, WDM) and Integrated Access Devices (IADs),--Working level knowledge of analog (POTS) telephony, Class 5 PSTN exchanges, SS7, E1/T1, E3/DS3, SDH/SoNET protocols, equipment, physical (Layer 1) interfaces (both electrical & optical) and industry standard terminations, experience planning, deploying, terminating, troubleshooting/testing, and repairing fiber optic cabling, and network synchronization and timing leveraging BITS, NTP, and IEEE 1588Must be fully proficient with MS Office Suite and have the ability to generate diagrams using MS Visio.--Skills in project management, technical documentation, and communication are a mustPreferred Qualifications:--Experience designing Layer 2 (switched) and Layer 3 (routed) networks --- --Ethernet--- --TCP/IP and UDP (IPv4 and IPv6)Direct, hands-on experience configuring Cisco Layer 2 and 3 switches and routersWorking level understanding and experience implementing EIGRP and OSPF routing protocolsExperience installing networking equipment and cablingFamiliarity with network monitoring and packet capture tools (i.e. WireShark)Experience maintaining, administering, analyzing/testing, and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks Selective Service Requirements To be eligible for employment at INL males born after December 31, 1959--must have registered with the Selective Service System (SSS).
