Simplot Company is a true farm-to-table company with operations that touch every aspect of agriculture, including seed production, farming and ranching, plant sciences, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, commercial product development, and distribution.SummaryWorks under the direction of a process engineer or the engineering manager in support of departmental research, plant/process support and process optimization objectives. This position will contribute to the company's efficiency, growth and environmental compliance, by providing assistance to the various production facilities primarily located in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and California. Initial focus will be on supporting the facility in Pocatello Idaho. Chemistry knowledge and principles shall be applied to assist with process optimization and new product development support at the production facilities. May be assigned the responsibility for planning, organizing, setting up, executing, and reporting results for experiments and pilot testing that support engineering, manufacturing and technology project objectives. Key Responsibilities Must be capable of developing, documenting and executing experiments, sampling or test protocols. Must be able to perform bench and pilot trial testing, assimilate and calculate obtained data, and produce meaningful final reports to provide information for engineering supervisors. Working under the direction of a process engineer, designs, plans, sets up, and executes bench and pilot scale experiments. This may include researching sources such as texts and abstracts and designing equipment and procedures. Prepare chemical solutions for use as standards, reagents for quality control or solutions for processing experiments following standardized formulas or experimental procedures. Analyzes the quality of fertilizer products, raw materials, and intermediate process streams by weighing, preparing, measuring and calculating data taken from samples. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Have the ability to clean, calibrate, and repair process testing equipment or instrumentation as necessary to insure accurate measurements and operation for laboratory testing, pilot testing or plant trials.
Time management for efficient project completion. Must be willing to travel to various production facilities on a project to project basis which could require anywhere from 10-20 days on the road on an annual basis. Typical EducationAssociates Degree (A.A. or equivalent)Relevant Experience 3+ years related experience and/or training Experience with lab and/or pilot plants strongly preferred Knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel , Project and Power Point required. Experience with Phosphate Fertilizer Production is preferred but not required Time management for efficient project completion Strong attention to detail Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environmentOther InformationCandidate must also be able to stand for extended periods of time and occasionally be able to lift up 50 pounds. Candidate must be willing to spend time in an industrial plant/process operations where exposure to process noise, large operating equipment and machinery, and hazardous chemicals exists as well as be able to work in a process lab setting. Computer knowledge in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel is required.
