Leading Nuclear Energy and Research Technology

MISSION: Discover, demonstrate and secure innovative nuclear energy solutions, other clean energy options and critical infrastructure.

VISION: INL will change the world's energy future and secure our critical infrastructure.

The Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T) Directorate of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as the next Director of the Fuel Cycle Science and Technology (FCST) Division. This position reports to the NS&T Directorate Associate Laboratory Director (ALD). The mission of the FCST Division is to provide leadership for the development and assessment of science-based solutions for used nuclear fuel management, separation-based applications, and support national security fuel-cycle related programs.

As the leader of the FCST Division, the Director will play an essential role in INLs efforts to challenge conventional thinking in nuclear RD&D and lead a paradigm shift in developing and deploying new nuclear fuel cycles, materials, concepts, and technologies. The Director will be responsible for management direction, strategy development, and leadership to focus and integrate the three FCST Division departments (Aqueous Separations and Radiochemistry, Pyrochemistry, Molten Salt Systems, and Used Nuclear Fuel Management ) toward science and technology goals consistent with existing programmatic missions and emerging opportunities. The Director will also be responsible for directing and supervising programmatic leaders providing direct support to sponsoring organizations, including the Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE), the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and private industry. For example, the FCST Division provides technical leadership for the DOE-NE Material Recovery and Waste Form Campaign and the Joint Fuel Cycle Studies (JFCS). The FCST Division also provides support for INL initiatives such as nuclear energy competitiveness and leadership as well as integrated fuel cycle solutions.

The Director will collaborate with leaders across the laboratory, particularly within the NS&T, Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC), and National and Homeland Security (NHS) Directorates, to leverage the full resources of the laboratory and those of our partners to achieve our mission and vision. As a leader in the NS&T Directorate, the Director is responsible for creating a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and diversity with a persistent focus toward the professional development of staff.

If you are a proven leader and meet the minimum requirements outlined below, we strongly encourage you to apply!

This position also requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience interacting effectively with a broad spectrum of people and issues in a fast-paced R&D environment, and experience developing and/or maintaining a healthy, positive, and inclusive work environment that promotes and enhances discovery and innovation.
